Castros is a Cuban gastro pub serving authentic Cuban food and cocktails. It can be found in Newcastle City Centre. The food choices include small plates, burgers, sandwiches, puddings and much more. It is all made in a traditional Cuban style, offering staples of original Cuban cuisine, so that you can taste the food of Cuba as if you were really there!
The Muddler

The Muddler is located just round the corner from Castros on the bustling Grey Street, but the cuisine couldn’t be more different. The Muddler pride themselves on creating and serving Pan-Asian cuisine and a unique selection of cocktails. They serve classic Asian food such as Katsu curry, Tempura, Dim Sum and Sushi. However, there is such a variety of meat, fish, and vegetables on their specially designed menu, that there is definitely something to suit everyone’s preference and taste.

Hjem (pronounced ‘yem’ – meaning home), is a Scandinavian restaurant, that became Northumberland’s first Michelin starred restaurant in 2021. It can be found in The Hadrian Hotel in the Hexham area of Northumberland. Head Chef and Owner of Hjem, Alex Nietosvuori, was born in Southern Skane, Sweden, and he brings his expertise of Scandinavian cuisine to the North East. Hjem is co-owned by Nietosvuori’s partner, North East born Ally Thompson, who has managed restaurants in London, New Zealand, Australia and Copenhagen.

Now, if you are after somewhere that will not only taste good, but is also stunning enough to photograph, the award winning, Michelin starred restaurant, Raby Hunt is the place for you. It is owned by James and Maria Close who also designed and created the menu and can be found in Summerhouse, Darlington. The restaurant has said the have an “international approach to ingredients” and are globally inspired.

Trakol is a restaurant based in Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside hotspot By The River Brew Co. It’s distinctive and inspiring focus is centred on ethical cooking, which all takes place over an open fire. Its menu is dynamic, with changes and additions a constant factor. Trakol’s eccentric approach to food service is charming and this is proven in the fact that they too are Michelin starred.
