The vibrant restaurant promises to deliver a dining experience unlike any other, combining vintage charm with contemporary flair and a diverse menu that celebrates the best of Bombay’s culinary heritage, cultural diversity, and innovative fusion flavours.

From Friday, 5th April 2024, Newcastle will be treated to a culinary voyage through Bombay’s streets as Dakwala opens its doors from 12:30pm.

Dakwala Bombay Canteen, the brand-new culinary destination inspired by the bustling streets of Bombay, is poised to grace the heart of Newcastle’s Grainger Street with its dynamic presence from April 5th 2024. Taking inspiration from Mumbai’s traditional Khanawal eateries, Dakwala promises to offer more than just dining but a celebration of Bombay’s rich culinary heritage.

Founder Rajiv Tiwari shares his inspiration behind the new Bombay Canteen: “I am thrilled to bring the vibrant flavours and cultural tapestry of Bombay to the heart of Newcastle through Dakwala. Our menu is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Bombay’s streets, offering a symphony of flavours and aromas that capture the essence of the dynamic city.

“I’m excited to share my passion for traditional Bombay street food with the people and visitors of Newcastle, ensuring there is something on our menu for everyone to enjoy.”

The menu at Dakwala Bombay Canteen features an array of appetising starters, mains, sides, and deserts. Highlights include their signature Dak House Chicken, Parsi Chicken Berry Pulao, and Vada Pav, aka Bombay Burger.

Other menu highlights include:

Banarrasi Temple Chaat – £5.95: Embark on a culinary journey with this sweet, salty, tangy, and spiced chaat inspired by the iconic tomato chaat of Banaras.

The Humble Pav Bhaji – £4.95: Savour every bite of this Bombay favourite, featuring mashed potato and vegetables served with pav, onion, lime, and fresh coriander.

Poppadom’s & Chutneys – £4.95

An assortment of crispy poppadom’s served with a trio of Chutney: Mango, Date and tamarind and spicy chilli and garlic.

Pani Puri shots – £4.95

Experience the thrill of these renowned Indian water bombs, crispy wheat puffs. Accompanied by sweet and tangy ‘Meetha’ pani and fiery ‘Theeka’ pani

Chit-chat chaat bombs – £5.50

A popular street food delights. Yoghurt chaat bomb, crispy whee puffs filled with beaten yoghurt, date and tamarind chutney.

Avacado Papdi Cracker – £5.50

Indian mini wheat cracker topped with avocado kachumber, date and tamarind chutney, sev, pomegranate, grated mooli and fresh coriander.

Dak House Chicken – £11.95

Indulge in Dakwala’s signature dish, a lush and creamy chicken masala inspired by the culinary heritage of ‘Dak Bungalow’ rest houses, originally for postal officers in British India.

Parsi Chicken Berry Pulao – £13.50

Experience a timeless creation from Britannia & Co’s kitchen in Bombay, featuring boneless chicken, fragrant Basmati rice, and a delightful blend of sweet and sour barberries.

Vada Pav aka Bombay Burger – £4.95

Delight in the flagship of Bombay street food, with deep-fried masala potato vada stuffed in pav bread, accompanied by sweet and spicy chutney.
