A Newcastle Indian restaurant much loved by celebrities ranging from Hairy Biker Si King to Place In The Sun’s Johnny Irvine has a new fan- The Good Food Guide.

For the first time Dosa Kitchen in Jesmond has been included in the food bible – where it has had praise heaped upon it for everything from its “super fair” pricing to its “vibrant inclusive” atmosphere.

The review of the restaurant, which specialises in authentic southern Indian cuisine, highlighted its namesake dosas saying they are served “roasted with homemade ghee or stuffed with the house potato masala” and are “big, crisp and shiny, while the parathas are gloriously ragged and the pooris puffy.”

The vegan and vegetarian offerings, along with the “homespun takes on chicken and lamb classics” were also considered stand-out dishes as were the “particularly good” sapaad feasts that are offered on Sundays.

Co-owner, Sudharsan Murugavel is delighted that the restaurant has now been recognised by The Good Food Guide and that it has singled out so many different aspects of Dosa Kitchen.

“We pride ourselves on offering a really authentic experience and the real food of southern India,” he said.

“So to have had this acknowledged by such a prestigious publication is fantastic for us.

“We believe we are the only place in the North East to offer sapaad – a set menu with a choice of vegetarian, non vegetarian and children’s options– where the menu is made of selection of different dishes which cover the six ayurvedic tastes – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent -accompanied by rice and dosa.

“The fact that The Good Food Guide mentioned this along with praising every other aspect of the menu makes this very special for us.”

Dosa Kitchen started life in 2015 as a pop-up before heading to its permanent base at the heart of Jesmond, just off Osborne Road and also has an outlet at STACK Seaburn under its outside catering brand, Big Fat Indian Kitchen.
