A new chapter is unfolding for a luxury hotel in North Yorkshire.
Raithwaite Sandsend, positioned steps away from Sandsend Beach and just two miles from the picturesque town of Whitby, has recently announced it will reopen its doors with a new name and identity.
Opening in September 2024, this beautiful part of the world will be known as the home of ‘Saltmoore’, a new and luxurious wellness-led retreat where guests can escape the hustle and bustle to enjoy a uniquely peaceful getaway.
Perfectly set between the sweeping sea and the vast heather-clad North Yorkshire Moors, Saltmoore will comprise two brand new hotels , Saltmoore House and The Beach House, with 72 beautifully designed bedrooms and suites, and four food and beverage outlets, including a gourmet restaurant, a relaxed Brasserie and a Wellness Café.
The extensive refurbishment of the property includes the introduction of a state-of-the-art wellness spa and gym, elevating the property into the ultimate retreat.
Every aspect of Saltmoore’s redesign, from its elegant interiors to its exquisite dining experiences, embraces its breathtaking natural surroundings, creating a luxuriously welcoming home from home.
Set over 85 acres of land, the historic Hall and estate has been a landmark in Whitby since the late 1800s and was originally the home of George Pyman, a Whitby local who made his fortune in the shipbuilding trade.
Guests can look forward to exploring woodland lodges, a wild swimming lake, and multiple dining outlets spread across the property. The ambitious development will also introduce 184 holiday homes and an artisan village, creating a vibrant community within this serene setting.
Sustainability and the stunning natural landscape are key elements of Saltmoore’s meticulous and thoughtful redesign. London-based developers Galliard Homes and O’Shea Group – who acquired the estate in May 2023 – have been hard at work bringing the vision to life.
Further enhancing the guest experience, dynamic General Manager duo Peter Boyle and Jayne Cartwright, formerly of luxury South Devon hotel, Gara Rocks, have joined the Saltmoore team. The pair have been instrumental industry leaders in some of the UK’s most prestigious hotels, with experience in huge redevelopment and refurbishment projects.
Saltmoore has also announced the appointment of Adam Maddock as Head Chef who will oversee the food and beverage offering across the estate. Adam is the former Head Chef of the Fife Arms in Braemar and has worked at leading UK hotels, many of which have held Michelin stars.
Having grown up in the South West, Adam specialises in fresh seafood and hearty game meat, with Saltmoore the ideal location to create delicious dishes inspired by the sea and moors.
Additionally, an upcoming announcement will reveal the talented consultant chef who has been hard at work behind-the-scenes alongside Adam and the rest of the team to create a menu of locally sourced traditional British cuisine with a twist.
Saltmoore’s unique location offers guests easy access to the delights of North Yorkshire. From the vibrant coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough, and Saltburn-by-the-Sea to the hidden gems of the North Yorkshire Moors such as Malton and Hinderwell, the estate is the perfect base for exploration. Thrill-seekers can indulge in coasteering, surfing, and wild swimming, while those seeking relaxation can enjoy leisurely lunches on the Terrace or soothing afternoons at the spa.
Conveniently located just a short drive from the A1, A19, and Teesside International Airport, Saltmoore is easily accessible to guests from across the UK and beyond.
