We recently had the pleasure of enjoying one of the finest Sunday lunches in the region with Jesmond Dene House

We recently had the pleasure of enjoying one of the finest Sunday lunches in the region with Jesmond Dene House.

Set in a semi-rural location amongst the picturesque Jesmond Dene and a stones throw away from Newcastle City Centre, Jesmond Dene House offers its guests a variety of stunning rooms, fine dining experiences, afternoon tea opportunities, and wedding packages.

We were invited to dine at Fern, the upmarket neighbourhood Dining Room and Bar set within Jesmond Dene House, a comfortable, relaxed, and luxurious space which offers unrivalled flavoursome food which showcases the passion, talent and expertise of its catering team. The cooking in this venue is skilful, generous, and heartfelt with dishes inspired by the seasons.

Jesmond Dene House’s team of expert chefs led by Executive Head Chef, Danny Parker, a finalist on MasterChef the Professionals, combine inspiration from the classics and modern cookery techniques. The team at Jesmond Dene House have created a luxury country home environment at Fern – which manages to offer its visitors a very comfortable and calm experience whilst also receiving the best quality service and food you would expect from a fine dining establishment.

During our visit we enjoyed a traditional three course Sunday Lunch at Jesmond Dene House, which was outstanding and possibly the best Sunday Lunch experience we’ve had.

We started the meal with a selection of warm house focaccia bread and a rich pat of butter from Longley Farm, a dairy company based in Yorkshire before our starters arrived. The appetiser was warm and comforting and was a lovely way to begin our meal on a cold autumn day. We loved the traditional feel of the menu and ordered a pawn cocktail which was rich and delicate.

We accompanied our meal with a warming glass of red wine to get us into the autumn spirit. We enjoyed a glass of the Rioja Crianza Vine Real CVNE, a rioja with Spanish origins. This wine complimented our meal with its berry charged tones that also added a hint of balsamic, with a velvety tannin. A wine we will definitely have to have again.

As Sunday dinner season has well and truly arrived, we then ordered a succulent treacle cured sirloin of roast beef that was sourced from R&J Butchers in Yorkshire and was the perfect centre piece for our meals. The beef is offered to be cooked to the guest’s preference, we choose to have ours pink and it arrived perfectly cooked.

The roast was served with roast potatoes, traditional crunchy greens, and carrots, as well as smooth swede and mash, topped off with a large Yorkshire pudding. We covered our dinners in a lovely, red wine-based gravy, and ordered a side of cauliflower cheese to accompany our Sunday lunches. The cauliflower cheese with aged cheddar was crispy on top and was the perfect consistency underneath it’s textured crust. This was the perfect accompaniment to our meals.

To finish, we enjoyed a vanilla crème brulee with biscotti and a plumb crumble which acted as the perfect sweet treat to finish our wonderful Sunday lunch dining experience.

Dining in the Fern Dining Room and Bar at Jesmond Dene House for Sunday Lunch varies from two courses for £29, to three courses for £35.
