Standing at the heart of the transforming Riverside Sunderland urban quarter, City Hall opened its doors in November 2021. It has already won a number of prestigious awards, and been used by tens of thousands of people.
The building is one of a number of large-scale projects progressing in the city centre as part of the Riverside Sunderland Masterplan, with more than £500m of live development projects underway right now.
The developments will deliver exciting new leisure opportunities for residents and visitors, with new places to spend time, meet, eat and socialise, as well as outdoor places to enjoy.
There will also be a number of new office spaces, which will see hundreds of new job opportunities for residents.
In addition to The Beam and City Hall – which are already complete – buildings taking shape include the Legal & General – backed Maker & Faber and the new Farringdon Row car park. Other developments that have been announced include Culture House, a new state-of-the-art Eye Hospical, Crowtree’s new Arena, a new pedestrian crossing over the river and more housing that will line the Wear.
