Get ready to dive into an exciting adventure this coming Easter weekend at ‘HWKRLAND’, the new concept making its grand debut and taking over the popular shipping container site currently known as HWKRMRKT, located under the Tyne Bridge, Gateshead Quays.
Nestled beneath the iconic Tyne Bridge HWKRMRKT sadly closed its doors to the public last October due to the start of the refurbishment of the Tyne Bridge. Since repairs have moved along, the much-anticipated return of the beloved street food market is set to take place this coming Easter weekend with a new lease of life!
The team behind the much-loved ‘By The River Brew Co’ and Michelin-Guide restaurant ‘Trakol’ has passed the baton onto well-known and experienced event pop-up operators EVNT Inspirations.
EVNT Inspirations is best known for the alpine popup bar ‘Moosenwirt’ and the recent Central Park container concept and events. With a wealth of experience behind them, the team is set to breathe a fresh feel and energy into the space, now reimagined as ‘HWKRLAND’.
Primed to reclaim its status as a premium hub for street food delights, exceptional drinks, social gatherings, and live entertainment, HWKRLAND promises an exhilarating fusion of mouth-watering street food, craft beers, cocktails and unforgettable entertainment. This eagerly anticipated relaunch will see a new era of alfresco dining and local community collaborations, alongside some exciting entertainment, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of this beloved destination.
Organiser Mike Hesketh can’t contain his excitement, stating, “This venue has been a pioneer for street food traders for the past 5 years and a much-loved venue for all who visited. Getting the green light to reopen and bring this amazing venue back to life is a huge honour, and we can’t wait to welcome our guests to explore and enjoy the new concept we are bringing.”
Mike continues to explain the exciting plans for the space: “We’ve added a fresh New-York-inspired micro pub, bottle shop and beer garden, stocking 40 independent beers and an incredible selection of stouts. There will be new and exciting food traders as well as some original favourites, a fresh cocktail concept, and a huge LED screen that will showcase major events and live entertainment all year round.”
Entertainment will be a huge part of the new concept, with the large LED screen showcasing major events from sports fixtures to the Eurovision, ensuring there will be something for everyone to enjoy. A dedicated stage will also host live entertainment, quizzes, and Sunday markets, creating a dynamic and engaging experience at this iconic location.
Nigel Holiday, fellow organiser, explains the versatility of HWKRLAND’s space, “HWKRLAND will have some awesome and unique spaces, perfect for all types of functions and group sizes to hire. From our Bridge Room and terrace to the full site for larger events, all areas are fully covered, and heated and have great drinks and food selection for all to enjoy.”
HWKRLAND is a family and dog-friendly venue and will be welcoming guests of all ages. HWKRLAND will officially open this Easter weekend from Good Friday, 29th March 2024 from 5pm.
