Northumberland Recovery College (NRC), led by national mental health organisation, Everyturn Mental Health, has announced the launch of the ‘Northumberland Wellbeing Festival’ – showcasing the free wellbeing services that are available to adults across the region.

Organised in partnership with Cramlington Town Council and Open Minds Northumberland, the event will be the first of its kind in the county to spotlight the varying wellbeing services and support that’s on offer.

The family-friendly festival will take place in Seven Oaks Park in Cramlington on August 19th & 20th. There will be various providers on show across the two days, with activities and workshops including; dancing, arts and crafts, reiki healing, cycling, fire walking, and other community-focused initiatives. As well as the host of wellbeing activities, the festival will also have live music from local artists and a range of local food vendors.

Claire Baigent, Northumberland Recovery College Coordinator said: “We’re excited to be launching the first Northumberland Wellbeing Festival and welcoming people from across the county to sample the variety of services we have on offer.

“Maintaining your wellbeing is so personal, everyone does this so differently. That’s why Northumberland Recovery College offers a varied programme of activities from an array of organisations; whether it’s dancing or fire walking, we recognise that it’s about giving people the right tools to know how to cope when life gets tough.”

NRC, which is funded by the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, supports adults living and working in Northumberland – with a range of free workshops, courses, and activities designed to provide people with the skills and support needed to maintain their wellbeing.

Cramlington Town Mayor, Councillor Helen Morris said “Cramlington Town Council are delighted to welcome Northumberland Recovery College to Cramlington. With its central location and good access, Seven Oaks Park is an ideal venue for the Wellbeing Festival.

“The event is a great way to find out about the organisations that support mental health and wellbeing and the valuable work that they do. It also sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun – I’m looking forward to it already!”

Levi Buckley, ICB’s Executive Area Director, said: “There are so many things we can do to maintain our mental health, and it’s great to have so many options for people in our community to explore. We’re expecting an exciting couple of days!

“We’re glad to support mental health initiatives in our Northumberland communities, as well as working hard to enhance the range of mental health support services for anyone who needs them.”

NRC has seen significant improvements in the wellbeing of people who have taken part in their wellbeing workshops and activities, with 71% of students reporting being able to deal with their problems ‘often’ or ‘all of the time’ after attending NRC, compared to 20% beforehand.
