Tech Talent Live is a free drop in event designed to inspire, motivate and inform the next generation of tech and digital talent in the region.
The event, part of the TechNExt festival 2023, will take place on Thursday 22 June at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts on Gateshead Quays (12.30pm – 6pm). It is a chance for students, graduates, career changers and those new to the tech sector to meet employers and like-minded people from the region to discover more about the opportunities on offer in the North East.
The North East has one of the highest proportions of STEM students in the county, with over 67,000 people studying science, technology, engineering and maths and the region has the highest proportion of computer science students in England.
Thanks to the world-class education facilities, the region has access to some of the best future tech talent in the sector, but the challenge for businesses is keeping them here.
Jill McKinney, director at Dynamo and skills lead at Sunderland Software City said, “Tech Talent Live is one of the highlights of the festival programme. The aim of this event is to inspire, motivate and inform the next generation of tech and digital talent, as well as showcase our North East employers to anyone looking for a role in the sector.

“There will be a range of short talks throughout the event highlighting different tech careers and even a drop in CV workshops running throughout the afternoon where people can get tips from the best in the business.”
Enigma Interactive, a national digital development agency headquartered on Newcastle Quayside, is taking part in the event. Speaking about Tech Talent Live, Enigma’s director of holistic projects Sally Taffs said, “The North East is a fantastic place to do business, and we need to be better at showcasing the calibre of organisations and skills our region produces.
“We work with clients from across the UK, and whenever they visit us on the Quayside, they are always amazed at how vibrant and lively it is here. Our region is a fabulous place to live and work, with a great culture and amenities. Plus, we have an excellent talent pool and, I’m hopeful that events like Tech Talent Live will inform our future talent of the world-class opportunities available to them right on their doorstep.
“As well as taking part in Tech Talent Live, we will be welcoming students from Gateshead College into the studio so they can see behind the scenes of what it’s really like to work at a Digital Development Agency like Enigma. The students will get to meet the team, view the projects we are currently working on and gain a better understanding of the skills we’re looking for.”
Alongside Tech Talent Live, the TechNExt Festival will host events across the North East, with a ‘BIONIC woman’ and a ‘Chief Failure Officer’ among the speakers on the main stage at the conference, and over 40 fringe events taking place from Teesside to Tyneside.
Tech Talent Live is powered by Dynamo North East’s Tech Talent Engine, funded by North of Tyne Combined Authority. Headline sponsors for TechNExt are Digital Catapult, Newcastle Strategic Solutions, Opencast and Sage.
