Rally driver Fred Henderson established Fred Henderson Automobile Engineers in a disused workshop underneath the railway bridge in Durham city in January 1973. By the early 90’s the company took on one of the first privatised police contracts for vehicle recovery. The business has since grown from strength to strength with the introduction of their Bodyshop, Breakdown Doctor breakdown facility and Paintless Dent Removal services.
In July 2004, Fred’s son fellow professional driver, David Henderson joined the business after working in motorsport team management to concentrate on the workshop element of the business and the expansion to 25 full and part time employees.
Fred Henderson said: “It’s hard to believe the small business I started 50 years ago has become a pillar of the community. From small beginnings, commencing on my own, to the two acre site we have now. I am proud to have passed to baton to my son David who has carried on the family legacy.”
The car garage often sees customers regularly travelling great lengths to experience their five-star service. Speaking with customer Jacqui Bolam on why she chooses Fred Henderson, she said: “They are simply the best.
