Our secret diner FB Vivant reviews Chaophraya Christmas Showcase

Dare we even say the ‘C’ word! Given the turbulent past couple of years the hospitality sector is fully embracing the build-up to Christmas this year with a host of vibrant and creative Christmas events already selling out fast.

We were recently transported to an oasis of calm and full-on Christmas vibes as we hit Chaophraya to sample their up and coming Christmas showcase menu of tasty dining and festive cocktail creations.

Chaophraya is nestled above the hustle and bustle of Newcastle city centre with panoramic views of Grey Street from their contemporary Roof Terrace and Cocktail Bar.  We were invited to shake things up with a mini cocktail demo and sampled a first taste of their speciality Christmas cocktails, handpicked by their mixologist. First up a Snowdrop, Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, Shanky’s Whip Black Liqueur, Half and Half, Vanilla Syrup, Chocolate Bitters, White Chocolate Shavings.

Next in line was the Royale, Slingsby Marmalade Gin, Shanky’s Whip Black Liqueur, Lemon Juice, Sugar Syrup, Marmalade, Chocolate Bitters. Followed by a refreshing bubbly Mocktail, Cranberry Juice, Pomegranate Juice, Ginger Syrup, Lime Juice and Sprite Zero.

Things then heated up and we were treated to a taste of Thailand with an exclusive up close and personal chef demonstration. Hot off the wok was a tasty and fresh Chicken Pad Thai rustled up before our very eyes. A Thai staple dish, consisting of Thai rice noodles, vegetables and sweet tamarind sauce stir-fried with an egg, served with crushed peanuts, chilli and lime and topped with succulent chicken.

Chaophrayadelivers a true taste of Thailand with its colourful and diverse variety of recipes from the North of Thailand through to the South. With a host of dining spaces, the city centre spot is ideal for festive events from their Thai Garden private dining room, through to outdoor dining at their Monument Terrace – a very versatile venue bringing the beating heart of Thailand to the centre of Newcastle.
