The numbers are in and passenger figures have continued to rise at Teesside Airport – with 2025 recording the highest number of people through its doors for 16 years.
No fewer than 260,762 passengers chose Teesside last year – a rise of 14.5% on 2024.
A new Ryanair route to Malaga, launched in the spring and operating year-round, proved popular – while Alicante smashed its previous year’s figures with a rise of more than 22%.
Teesside offers flights to Corfu, Faro, Palma, Guernsey and Jersey – with trips to Malaga, Amsterdam and Alicante all available for 12 months of the year.
Twice weekly Ryanair flights to Faro and Majorca will begin again this spring, with a weekly trip to Corfu starting up in June and four flights a week to Alicante also available this summer.
TUI will continue to offer Teesside flights to Palma this summer, including popular Marella Cruise packages – and worldwide links to Amsterdam Schiphol remain with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Sunseekers can also jet off to Turkey from Teesside this year with the launch of a new route to Antalya with Turkish-based airline Mavi Gok Airlines (MGA).
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “It’s worth remembering that when we stepped in to save our airport from closure, it had been written off and left to decline, but we knew there was huge potential waiting to be unlocked.
“These figures show we’re continuing to head in the right direction, with our airport delivering the highest passengers figures seen in over a decade.
“We’re making rapid progress at our business park and bringing in new investors to create good-quality jobs and secure the airport’s financial future.
“But above all, we won’t lose sight of what people in Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool want most from their airport: more flights, more routes, and more destinations. I’ll keep working with the airport to deliver that in 2026 and beyond.”
Figures also revealed it was a positive year for cargo at Teesside Airport with total cargo up more than 300%.
Phil Forster, Managing Director of Teesside International Airport, added: “These figures are encouraging and show real momentum building at Teesside, particularly in what has been a very tough and uncertain environment for the aviation industry.
“We’ve had our share of ups and downs along the way, so to see passenger numbers continue to rise – and to record our highest total in 16 years – is a real credit to the hard work, resilience and commitment of the entire airport team, our airline partners and everyone who supports the airport.
“There is still a long way to go, but this result shows local people want to back their local airport.
“Popular new and returning routes, strong year-round services and significant growth in cargo all underline the role Teesside Airport is playing for the region. We’re proud of what’s been achieved so far, but we’re ambitious and determined to do more – with more routes, more opportunities, and an even stronger performance in 2026.”
