“It is the best example of local government, the private sector and the third sector working together,” according to a new report by the Centre for Cities, which has praised Sunderland as the leading example of UK high street transformation.

The thinktank’s latest nationwide analysis has hailed the city’s regeneration strategy as a blueprint for the rest of the country — with three key projects delivered by Bradley Hall proudly named among the success stories.

The report highlights The Botanist, Keel Tavern, and the Flower Café — three standout hospitality venues situated in the heart of the Riverside Sunderland regeneration zone. Developed and delivered in partnership with Bradley Hall, these venues are already playing a pivotal role in attracting footfall, creating jobs, and injecting new life into the city centre.

Bradley Hall Group Chief Executive Neil Hart welcomed the recognition: “We are incredibly proud that Bradley Hall’s projects have been acknowledged in such a prestigious national report. This is a powerful testament to what is possible when public and private sectors work hand-in-hand with a shared ambition. Sunderland is a city on the rise, and we’re honoured to play our part in its regeneration.”

As part of a wider £500 million transformation of the city centre, the venues delivered by Bradley Hall sit alongside new landmarks such as the City Hall, Culture House, and Eye Hospital, as well as the Maker & Faber office developments. They also form part of the high-profile Sheepfolds Stables project, backed by Hairy Biker Si King, which has turned a previously derelict site into a thriving cultural and culinary destination.

Bradley Hall’s investment in these hospitality ventures reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to high-quality placemaking and supporting sustainable urban communities.

Neil Hart added: “This is more than just bricks and mortar — it’s about shaping the future of our towns and cities. Sunderland is setting the standard nationally, and we look forward to continuing our work with local partners to build on this momentum.”

With more than 1,000 homes, 1 million square feet of office space, and new public infrastructure already under way, Sunderland is quickly becoming one of the most dynamic examples of 21st-century city development. Bradley Hall remains at the forefront of this transformation, delivering projects that combine quality design, local character, and economic opportunity.
