Over 300 people descended on The Baltic in Gateshead last month [Sep 2026] to celebrate the 15th anniversary of B Corp law firm, Square One Law.

The event brought together staff, partners, clients and friends to celebrate the firm’s growth, catch up and reflect on 15 years of working together.

Square One Law was founded in 2011 with a clear purpose: to work flexibly in a way that suits the client, providing straight-talking, jargon-free advice from lawyers who understand their business, give a clear view and have their back. While the firm and the business world have changed over the past 15 years, that approach remains central to how it works.

The firm has also continued to expand beyond its North East roots, particularly in Yorkshire, where its 18-strong Leeds team recently relocated to larger, 3,000 sq ft premises at 7 Park Row to support its continued growth.

Jean-Pierre van Zyl and head of the Employment team at Square One Law, said: “The anniversary event was a fantastic way to bring staff, clients, partners and friends of the firm together to celebrate the last 15 years and reflect on how far we’ve come.

“Many things have changed over the years, from technology and the challenges businesses face to the size and reach of our own firm. But our approach hasn’t. We’re here to be business champions: to give a view, find solutions and have our clients’ backs. I think this was evident in the number of people who joined us to celebrate.”

The event featured a DJ who spun hits from 2011 throughout the evening, retro arcade games, popcorn and ice cream stalls, food and drinks.

It also provided an opportunity to look ahead to the firm’s next chapter, including further growth in Yorkshire and to continue supporting businesses across sectors such as energy, technology and health and life sciences.

Jean-Pierre added: “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved over 15 years, and there’s plenty more we want to do.

“As businesses adapt to new technologies, changing markets and fresh opportunities, they need lawyers who understand what they’re trying to achieve and help them make confident decisions.

“Our next chapter will build on the same principles that brought us here: working flexibly, speaking plainly and being firmly in our clients’ corner.”
