Sainsbury’s Superstore is one of three major developments handed over at Wynyard
Hebburn-based, Castle, has completed a sectional handover at the new Wynyard Trade and Retail Park in the Tees Valley.

Hebburn-based, Castle, has completed a sectional handover at the new Wynyard Trade and Retail Park in the Tees Valley.

This includes the 48,000sq. ft. Sainsbury’s Superstore, the 44,794sq.ft. terrace of seven high-quality Trade counter units and a 1,853sq.ft. Starbucks Drive Thru.

Having secured permission for 52,000 sq ft of retail space and a 45,000 sq ft trade park, Northumberland Estates, the development and investment company, appointed Castle as principal contractor.

Wynyard Trade and Retail Park is located within Wynyard Business Park.

The Retail Park has attracted key brands, such as Starbucks, which is anchored by the Sainsbury’s superstore. The Trade Park will be occupied by a range of businesses, including Howdens, Screwfix and Doves.

The project has seen Castle teams involved in initial enabling works, statutory services, earthworks, groundworks, frame and envelope through to partial MEP services and external services including associated roads and car parks.

Wynyard Business Park forms a high, landscaped, mixed-use, commercial development and is one of the most prestigious business locations in the Tees Valley, creating both new retail and employment opportunities. Works have encompassed full enabling, infrastructure, superstructure and fit-out stages, to ensure high-quality facilities ready for tenant occupation.

A team led by Castle’s operations director, Shaun Powell, has been working to a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Very Good standard, to specify and measure the sustainability performance of the buildings.

Craig Muldoon, divisional director Build, Castle, said: “It is very satisfying to complete, on behalf of our valued client, Northumberland Estates, a sectional handover on this major project and, in particular, the delivery of a Sainsbury’s superstore, which will create a huge number of jobs and act as a real pull to drive footfall right across the Retail Park.”

Peter Dalby, Northumberland Estates Development Manager, said: “We are delighted to see the successful delivery of the new Sainsbury’s Superstore and wider developments at Wynyard Retail and Trade Park. From the outset, our vision has been to create a high-quality destination that strengthens the local economy, attracts nationally recognised occupiers, and generates significant employment opportunities. The completion of these key phases marks a major milestone in realising that vision and firmly establishes Wynyard as a premier retail and trade location in the Tees Valley.”
