Polar NE: Window specialists open the door to new business with several ‘six figure’ contracts

Business is booming at an award-winning Teesside company, after the firm secured a string of six-figure contracts on key projects across the North East.

For over 40 years, Polar NE has been developing unique windows and doors. For the past two decades, it has largely specialised in reduced-ligature products for the NHS.

However, the Middlesbrough-based firm has won four major contracts that will see it install more traditional glazing at hospitals and schools across the region.

In total, the projects will see Polar NE’s team install over 500 windows across the North East, as the company continues to grow.

“Through years of innovation and strong results, we’ve earned a reputation as being the go-to provider of reduced-ligature windows and doors,” said Operations Manager, Rob Lofthouse.

“But traditional windows and doors have always been a strong part of our business, and these contracts are a reminder that there’s a lot more depth to our business than just the mental health sector.

“Ultimately, whatever the project – be it a complex NHS environment or simply a large-scale project at a school – we are routinely trusted to find a solution for clients, and that’s evidenced by the fact all four contracts are from clients who’ve used us before.”

The projects will see Polar NE deliver windows to both Blyth and North Tyneside Hospital, alongside Holystone Primary.

On Teesside, they’ve also secured the contract to help refurbish Yarm School.

The windows are currently being fabricated at the firm’s factory in Skipper’s Lane, with installation expected to start on all four projects over the summer months,

They are the latest contracts to help grow Polar NE’s increasingly diverse portfolio, following a major project in Scotland.

Costing £85m, HMP Stirling was the first new women’s prison in Scotland in a generation, with Polar NE tasked with designing and creating reduced-ligature fittings for the project that has since won multiple awards for its pioneering design.

It was Polar NE’s first prison project, and Managing Director James Hill said the company is increasingly attracting interest from a diverse array of sectors.

“We’ve built our reputation by solving some of the most complex challenges in healthcare environments, but that same expertise can translate into almost any sector,” added James.

“By continuously investing in technology and our team, we are diversifying the business. That means we’re not defined by a sector, but by our ability to repeatedly deliver results.”
