North East construction firm expands senior management team
Well-known North East-based construction firm STP Construction has recently expanded its senior management team as it sets its sights on future growth and expansion across the UK.

Well-known North East-based construction firm STP Construction has recently expanded its senior management team as it sets its sights on future growth and expansion across the UK.

The highly respected construction firm has welcomed to the team Dave Wild as Estimating Manager, Neil Balmer as Contracts Manager, and Mike Smith as Senior Buyer, bringing further industry-leading knowledge to the already experienced team.

Established in 2003 by Ian Cowling and John Smailes, the construction company has grown quickly, fast becoming one of the region’s most recognised names in construction and building an enviable client list including names such as Aldi, Newcastle Building Society, NHS, Arriva, Northumbria University, and UK Land Estates.

Ian Cowling, Construction Director at STP Construction, said, “we are delighted to welcome Dave, Neil, and Mike to the team. As a reputable construction firm, we are committed to providing industry-leading construction services and solutions and delivering projects to the 100% satisfaction of our clients. Our future success and growth as a business is significantly dependant on the strength of our team, which has certainly been bolstered by our latest raft of appointments”.

It remains a challenging time for the UK construction industry with a continued shortage of materials and with inflation rising at its fastest rate in 40 years. Figures from the ONS show that monthly construction output decreased by 0.4% in volume terms in April 2022, the first monthly decline since October 2021*.

Ian Cowling, said “It’s certainly been a difficult few years and continues to be so. Mitigating the impact that the construction sector is facing is pivotal to the growth of STP and our continued delivery of high-end projects. Our policy of upfront buying remains crucial to us staying ahead of the game, and we remain focused on developing close working relationships with clients allowing us to deliver projects within the timeframes and budgets set”.

As a significant player in the construction industry, the firm has certainly had a positive impact on shaping the built environment of its North East home. STP Construction is noted for having worked on the sympathetic refurbishments of historical and listed buildings as well as building bespoke office buildings, creating and supporting the education sector with their design and build projects and operating with the civil engineering market.

Ian continued, “ We are proud of all we have achieved, but we are looking firmly to the future. We are focused on increasing the business’s turnover by 50% during the next year through the continued provision of high-quality construction projects supported by our expanding team of construction professionals”.
