Miller Homes highlights trailblazing Women in Construction

North East housebuilder, Miller Homes, is aiming to inspire more women and young girls to consider rewarding careers in construction, from the building site to the boardroom.

To mark Women in Construction Week (beginning March 2), the firm is taking the opportunity to celebrate the women shaping the industry while encouraging the next generation to explore the many career opportunities it offers.

Across the UK, more women are entering construction than ever, making up around 15% of the workforce – equating to around 350,000 jobs – a number that continues to rise as firms like Miller Homes focus on inclusion, skills and creating clear career pathways. The housebuilder says the sector offers fulfilling long-term opportunities across many roles including “off-site” opportunities in areas like land acquisition, architecture, health and safety, design and sales.

At its North East office, the business is this week highlighting the women shaping regional homes and communities, while demonstrating the careers available in modern housebuilding.

Lauren Angus, sales and marketing director at Miller Homes Newcastle, said: “Increasing representation is vital for the industry’s future and Women in Construction Week helps shine a light on the talented women already working across our industry and to show others what’s possible. Construction offers an incredible variety of careers and it’s important that more women feel confident about exploring those opportunities.

“The industry has traditionally been perceived as being male-dominated, but that is changing. From leadership positions to technical roles and site teams, women are making a real impact and helping shape the future of construction and housebuilding across the North East and beyond.”

Initiatives to improve diversity in construction are helping challenge outdated stereotypes and encouraging young people to consider careers in the sector. Miller Homes actively supports this progress by creating pathways into the business, promoting visible role models and ensuring an inclusive working environment. As such, it is utilising its social media channels to celebrate and showcase some female employees and the roles they occupy.

Lauren will be joined in the campaign by regional health and safety advisor, Debbie Page; Emily Scott, land manager; architectural technician Daisy Watson; and sales trainee Kathryn Fyfe. Together, they represent a wide range of careers available across the sector.

Daisy spoke about her pride in seeing more women joining the sector. She said: “I’m proud that Miller Homes is creating opportunities for women to thrive. The industry benefits hugely from a wider talent pool and women entering construction enjoy fulfilling interesting careers.”

The firm says representation is key to inspiring future talent. By highlighting women working across the business, Miller Homes hopes to encourage others to follow similar career paths.

Lauren added: “Housebuilding relies on a broad mix of skills, perspectives and experiences. The more diverse our workforce, the stronger the business and wider industry become. Encouraging more women into construction isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s essential if we want to continue growing and delivering the homes communities need.”

By championing inclusive workplaces and celebrating role models across the business during Women in Construction Week and beyond, Miller Homes hopes to help reshape perceptions of the sector and inspire more women to help build the homes and communities of tomorrow.
