Nicholsons Butchers – Whitley Bay’s award-winning family butcher – has been named a finalist for the North of England in the very first British Butchery Awards, celebrating the UK’s best craft butchers.
A proud part of the Whitley Bay community since 1914, Nicholsons is now run by the fourth generation and has built its reputation on quality cuts, traditional skills and a friendly welcome. Today, Kathryn, the first female to lead the business, carries on that legacy with a fresh approach and a passion for great produce.
Nicholson’s has become a cherished part of the community for over a century and is honoured to be named a finalist in the prestigious British Butchery Awards. Kathryn shared her excitement: “I’m absolutely delighted and gobsmacked to be a finalist. It’s an honour to stand alongside other fantastic butchers I’ve always looked up to such as Turnbull’s and Farmison. It’s a great boost for the team and shows just how much effort, hard work and dedication that goes into everything we do, day in, day out.”
This year’s British Butchery Awards have been organised by National Craft Butchers, a trade association with more than 136 years of experience supporting and championing independent butchers. Unlike many other awards, the British Butchery Awards are judged by industry experts, who assess each finalist on their craft skills, sustainability, business success, commitment to the trade and of course, butchery.
Finalists from across the UK now face further judging and mystery shops before winners are announced at the awards dinner on Monday 30 June 2025.
