Redhills, Durham Miners Hall – Nick Malyan, chief executive

A chief executive has been appointed to lead the restoration and renewal of the historic Redhills, Durham Miners Hall.

Nick Malyan will oversee the £8m redevelopment of the Grade II-listed hall, and its future operations as a centre for culture, heritage and education.

Before joining the Redhills development team, he was a founding director of regeneration organisation Empty Shop CIC, and held cultural development roles with Durham County Council and New Writing North.

Mr Malyan said: “Redhills is a beacon for working people and a symbol of our collective worth. The heritage it represents is of regional, national and international significance. My role now is to put the Durham miners’ proud heritage of collective endeavour to work, and ensure that Redhills is once again an engine of positive change for the Durham coalfield area and beyond.”

Muckle LLP – Matthew Brady, dispute resolution team

North East law firm Muckle LLP has strengthened its disputes resolution team to meet the growing need for its services. Matthew Brady (pictured above with Susan Howe), from County Durham, has joined Muckle from Northumberland Country Council, where he provided in-house advice in relation to contractual and procurement matters.

He said: “I am thrilled to have joined Muckle LLP’s top ranked dispute resolution team at an exciting team for the team. Being born and raised in the North East, I am keen to support and assist all companies and individuals within the region in relation to any dispute matter they have.

“What attracted me to Muckle was its reputation as a firm that is not only successful within the North East and wider region, but one that looks after its staff and clients and nurtures from within. The departments within Muckle are integrated and work hand in hand, and I really value the team approach.”

Matthew’s expertise lies within all manner of contract disputes, from small value to larger high court disputes. Breach of contract claims, restrictive covenant claims, intellectual property and shareholder disputes are also areas on which he has advised.
