New Chartered Architectural Technologist takes on regional role supporting the next generation of talent in Architectural Technology.
GT3 Architects has announced that Callum McChesney MCIAT, who has recently joined the practice as a Chartered Architectural Technologist, has also been appointed aspiration Chair for the Northern Region at CIAT, the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.
The aspiration Chair role focuses on supporting students and early career professionals in Architectural Technology, helping to champion the profession and encourage new talent into the industry.
Based in GT3’s Newcastle studio, Callum brings nearly five years of post-university experience working across a range of large-scale projects. He became a Chartered Architectural Technologist in early 2024 and has built a strong track record in tackling technical design challenges, with a particular interest in sustainability and collaborative working.
His appointment to the aspiration Chair role reflects both his commitment to the profession and his enthusiasm for supporting those coming into it. CIAT’s aspiration network is designed to support students, graduates, affiliates and recently qualified Chartered Architectural Technologists as they begin and develop their careers.
At GT3 Architects, Callum is continuing to grow his experience on complex live projects while contributing to the practice’s wider focus on sustainable, people-led design.

Speaking about his new role with CIAT, Callum said: “I’ve wanted to get more involved with CIAT for a little while now and aspiration gives me the perfect opportunity. I enjoy helping students and those starting out in this profession, navigating education and the early years of their career can be full of uncertainty and I hope I can provide some helpful guidance to these people within the Northern Region. There is also a clear shortage of Architectural Technologists within this region, and I would like to help raise the profile of the discipline and encourage more people into it.”
Callum’s route into the profession began with a HNC in the Built Environment at NESCOL before going on to study at Robert Gordon University, where he graduated in 2021. During his studies, he developed a strong interest in sustainable design and modern methods of construction, including through a final-year project focused on designing a commercially viable hotel using MMC and other sustainable strategies.
Since graduating, he has worked across multiple sectors on major projects in the North East, gaining broad technical experience and developing his professional specialism. His growing interest in building performance and heritage construction has also been shaped by life outside the office, including recently buying his first home.
Commenting on Callum’s appointment, Neil Hardy, Director at GT3 Architects said: “We’re delighted to see Callum take on this important position alongside his role at GT3. Architectural Technologists bring a highly specialised skillset, and as a practice we know how challenging it can be to find and nurture that kind of talent. Supporting the next generation of professionals is vital for the future of the profession, and Callum’s enthusiam, technical ability and genuine commitment to helping others make him a great fit for the role.”
As GT3 Architects celebrates a decade in business and continues to go from strength to strength, Callum’s appointment reflects the practice’s ongoing investment in people, professional development and the future of the industry.
