The local authority will continue to be a premium partner of Portfolio North, alongside organisations such as The Inn Collection Group and Building Design Northern.
Sunderland is undergoing a huge transformation, with major developments happening across the city, and the council is at the heart of the progress.
The city’s skyline is being transformed, with new buildings such as City Hall, the council’s new home, and the Auditorium at The Fire Station bringing a new feel to the city centre.
There’s more changes on the horizon too, including: a game-changing makeover of Sunderland train station; a vibrant new leisure destination at Sheepfolds; a new state-of-the-art Eye Hospital; Culture House, a multi-purpose cultural venue; the National Esports Performance Campus; the cutting-edge Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy (HICSA); Maker and Faber, two Legal & General-backed highly sustainable offices at Riverside Sunderland; and Envision’s £450million Gigafactory expansion.
Speaking about the partnership, Peter McIntyre, Executive Director of City Development at Sunderland City Council, said: “It’s a hugely exciting time for Sunderland, with huge levels of investment being attracted to the city, and we’re keen to showcase the opportunities in the city, Portfolio North is a great vehicle to do that.
“With the built environment changing so rapidly in the city and so many opportunities for businesses and investors it is great to have a publication like this to be able to profile Sunderland and its future.”
It’s not just the built environment that is booming, the leisure and entertainment sector has bounced back from Covid well in the last 12 months, with highlights including Ed Sheeran and Elton John wowing crowds at the Stadium of Light.
Add to that west-end shows at Sunderland Empire and a rejuvenated seafront, with plenty of top eateries and bars, there’s a real positivity in the city.
Cassie Moyse, director at Portfolio North, added: “I’m delighted that Sunderland City Council are continuing their partnership with us. The magazine was set up to fly the flag for the North East and it’s great to be able to help Sunderland spread the word about the journey it’s on.
“We continue to grow and we’re receiving more interest than ever before, and that growth is based on the foundation of support provided by long-running partners such as Sunderland City Council. I would like to thank Sunderland City Council for its ongoing support and involvement in the magazine.
“The team are looking forward to working with the council as we continue to champion everything that is great about our fantastic region.”
Portfolio North launched as a standalone, bi-monthly publication this year and today the business, lifestyle and property magazine boasts a readership of over 35,000 across the North East of England, as well as a digital news platform attracting thousands of visitors each and every month.
