A Newcastle business that promotes a more agile approach to working has partnered with a progressive law firm to provide a boost to tech and digital businesses.
Based in Grainger Street, Floe Coworking Space – launched in 2022 – provides a hybrid working offer, with a particular focus on supporting digital start-ups and fledging tech entrepreneurs. Northern legal firm, Square One Law, has agreed a partnership with Floe that will establish a ‘pop up’ legal shop within the city centre building.
Square One, which also has a particular strength in working with technology and digital businesses, will be on-site on a weekly basis, offering advice and assistance to those who need it, as part of a wider eco-system of support available to companies and individuals based out of Floe.
And, with Floe set to take on full management of Maybrook House, after establishing itself on the third floor of the building, the partnership will enable firms from different sectors and at all stages of the their journey, to benefit from access to professional legal support.
Hamish Rutherford, a director at Floe, said he is excited to see the partnership deliver for businesses and people based in the co-working space.
He said: “It’s clear that the working practices of most businesses have changed significantly over the last few years, with people wanting to have the sense of agency that they had when homeworking, coupled with support and community.
“Floe provides a workspace where entrepreneurs and businesses can meet and collaborate with others, in a lower risk way without the overheads associated with having premises of their own.
“We’re delighted to be working with Square One Law to enhance the support we are able to offer to the brilliant businesspeople who use our space. There was obvious synergy between Square One’s values and ours at Floe, so this is the start of what I am sure will be a brilliant partnership.”
Square One Law is based in Jesmond and also has offices in Darlington and Leeds. The pop-up office in Floe is the firm’s first foray into a hybrid working space, and will enhance the support available to the 600 people who regularly use the space.
Gill Hunter, managing partner at Square One Law, said: “Floe’s coworking space is such a vibrant, dynamic place where businesses collaborate and grow and people with big ideas begin to transform them into exciting enterprises.
“We want to be part of that community; to be available to tech and digital businesses that need support at all stages of their journey, from lawyers who are tech savvy and not afraid to take a non traditional approach to legal services. This really feels like a good fit for both Floe and Square One Law and we’re excited to see the partnership develop and the impact on the region’s tech sector.”
With rates starting at £20 per desk per day, Floe already has 180 members and 42 businesses signed up to use the space, a number set to grow as it expands over two more floors of Maybrook House.
