Known for delivering innovative, visionary architectural and engineering projects that range from modern opulent properties to bold historic restorations, Building Design Northern (BDN) and Fitz Architects have announced a collaborative new chapter that is set to deliver strategic growth opportunities going forward.
Following continued success and multiple new projects in the pipeline for both companies across the UK, Fitz will, over the next few months, be brought under the BDN ‘umbrella’ to create a highly specialist offering that sits (and works) alongside BDN’s existing luxury residential arm.
Still operating as ‘Fitz’ and offering the same unrivalled expertise and design superiority, this will enable clients across both organisations to access (and fully benefit from) an all-inclusive and fluid, ‘concept to completion’ service from a multi-disciplined company that is well respected in its field and within the built environment sector.
This ‘one-stop-shop’ experience will provide existing as well as new commercial, industrial and residential clients with greater fluidity as well as the added benefit, reassurance and efficiencies that come from liaising with just one company throughout any project life span. This will include everything from initial technical design concepts and planning support, through to structural and civil engineering and project management services.
Richard Marsden, Managing Director of Building Design Northern (BDN), explained, “We acquired Fitz Architects back in 2023 as part of a strategic move to further compliment and strengthen our own architectural design services and delivery capability. Since that time, both companies have continued to grow apace and carve a distinct niche with the UK’s built environment sector.
“Rather than both companies continuing to operate separately, it therefore makes strategic sense to bring BDN and Fitz together whereby clients can have a seamless experience from start to finish, with every project requirement being expertly served under one roof. We have the very best professionals in their field here and regardless of project type, all will be fully managed by BDN and Fitz collaboratively from start to finish.
“We’re somewhat disrupting the traditional norms of the industry as full-service capabilities are usually more typical of larger, well-known national organisations. Therefore, we’re excited to see this develop as we continue to deliver exceptional residential, commercial and industrial schemes for clients across the UK. We have many more new projects in the pipeline and feedback we have received so far has been extremely encouraging indeed.”
From commercial, industrial and residential clients to community-driven and historic, heritage-rich regeneration projects, BDN has completed a plethora of innovative, high-quality schemes that deliver lasting social and environmental impact. This includes Sheepfolds Stables, B&Q’s new Galashiels retail superstore, St. Cuthberts Close supported-living housing scheme and ‘Super Brad’s Pad’ respite facility to name a few.
Similarly, Fitz Architects – known for its creative design flair, has delivered a portfolio of striking visionary homes for private residential clients across the North East and wider UK regions.
