From traditional Neapolitan pizza to Indo-Latino tapas, reimagined Persian classics, Indian street food and more, these exciting new kids on the block promise fresh flavours and memorable dining experiences.
Rudy’s Pizza
Known for its relaxed, stripped-back vibe and dedication to traditional methods passed down from the pros in Italy, Rudy’s has made a name for itself as one of the UK’s best-loved pizza joints – and now it’s set to open its doors right here in the North East for the second time, having opened up a spot in Durham last year. Keep your eyes peeled for the new pizzeria – perfectly positioned on Newcastle’s iconic Grey Street – where you’ll be able to enjoy the restaurant’s famous freshly-made pizzas created using the finest Italian ingredients, including flour imported from Naples, tomatoes from San Marzano and the highest quality Fior de latte around.

Mowgli Street Food
Founded by former barrister-turned-restaurateur, Nisha Katona, Mowgli serves up a menu inspired by the vibrant and lively street food culture of India – and it’s coming to the North East for the first time in early 2025. Designed for sharing, popular dishes like yoghurt chat bombs, tamarind fries and bunny chow will all make an appearance at the restaurant chain’s Newcastle site, which promises to bring all the cosy, laid-back vibes in true Katona style to the Toon, complete with twinkling lights, rustic wood accents and earthy colours across two floors. Keep your eyes peeled.

Hide
Hide opened its doors in October this year and has already made a name for itself as one of Heaton’s most exciting bistros-and-bars. Much like its nearby sister venues, Nest and Flight, it serves up an eclectic and varied menu of modern British dishes with a twist, Italian classics, French staples and more, plus creative and good-looking small plates stretching, fish, meat and veggies. Its Sunday roasts have already garnered a loyal following, as has its set price menu, which runs on selected evenings and lunch times throughout the week. As you’d expect from the owners, looks-wise, the site has been given a first-class makeover that brings the outside in, complete with flickering candlelight and a mix of seating options to suit groups, couples and friends.

Cilantro Tapas
This winter, Cilantro will be adding to its family of North East venues with a new spot on Newcastle Quayside, allowing the Toon’s city centre foodies to enjoy its Indo-Latino tapas for which it is famed (you’ll find its sister restaurant over in Hexham and delights from its kitchen over in The Valley Corbridge and The Valley Junction 297 in Jesmond). The restaurant blends the bold spices and ingredients of Indian cuisine with the bright, fresh flavours of Latin America, crafting a menu that stands out for its creative and inventive approach to tapas. Hybrid favourites include chicken tikka quesadillas, chickpea and potato tacos, keema and egg burritos and masala fish bites – all perfect for sharing.
