A landmark North East venue is going the extra Three Mile to ensure its first Christmas is a cracker.
Three Mile, at Gosforth, Newcastle, this year unveiled a £7.5m transformation by owner Malhotra Group plc to create a state-of-the art hotel, bar and restaurant.
And the venue has created a Christmas Fayre menu for diners looking to eat out throughout the festive season and a no-holds-barred menu for Christmas Day itself.
The Christmas Fayre menu, which will be available from 1 to 24 December and on Boxing Day, offers starters such as smoked salmon and prawn cocktail, roast pumpkin soup and chicken liver parfait, followed by a choice of main course roasts.
These include turkey, rump of beef and roast hake with a vegetarian option of roast butternut squash and pearl spelt risotto.
The dessert menu features a traditional plum pudding with brandy sauce, chocolate profiteroles, Bailey’s crème brûlée and a vegan chocolate and orange torte.
On Christmas Day, the chefs are pulling out all the stops with a four-course menu starting with dishes such as cured pavé of salmon, with beetroot, orange and horseradish cream, smoked chicken Caesar salad and a game terrine with fig and liquorice chutney, followed by an intermediate course of pumpkin soup.
The traditional turkey main course will be served as a ballotine, with roasted vegetables, potatoes and pigs in blankets, with other options such as roast rump of beef, roast cod loin and nut roast also on offer.
The meal will then be rounded off with either Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, chocolate truffle torte, sherry trifle cheesecake or a selection of festive cheeses.
For those looking to celebrate the season with a party, the Ouseburn Suite at Great North Hotel – next door to the Three Mile – is the ideal setting.
The suite, on the ground floor of the newly built 64-bedroom hotel, not only has its own private entrance but a choice of party packages is on offer leading up to Christmas and into the New Year.
Party organisers can choose a festive two course menu priced at £25pp including prosecco on arrival or a finger buffet, priced at £15pp, while a resident DJ can provide a disco and party games.
The Three Mile Christmas Day menu is priced at £70pp and the Christmas Fayre menu is priced at £24pp for two courses and £27pp for three.
