Taking place between Monday 5th August and Sunday 11th August, NE1’s popular Restaurant Week offers diners the chance to dine out at a discount.
More than 100 venues across Newcastle are taking place in this summer’s Restaurant Week, offering dining deals priced at £15, £20 and £25 per person.
Whether you’re a seasoned foodie with a flavourful palate or you’re looking for somewhere new to try, we’ve rounded up the top places to book, along with recommendations on what to order.
21
Offering two courses for £20 or three for £25, Terry Laybourne’s restaurant 21 has a renowned reputation for flavour-forward dishes influenced by French classics. Commanding a popular Quayside location, we recommend booking a table here and ordering the famous cheddar cheese and spinach souffle to start, followed by the slow-cooked Northumbrian lamb with Moroccan spices, almonds and cous cous. Finish with the panna cotta with Prosecco-poached peaches.
Gaucho
Inside the Grade II-listed building on Pilgrim Street, Gaucho is known for its Argentine sustainable steaks and fine wines. This Restaurant Week, dine at a discount and indulge in three courses for just £25. The menu includes a choice of beef empanadas or burrata and truffle-infused tomato salad for starters, followed by a classic beef burger, spaghetti or steak for mains. Finish with a chocolate brownie or a salted dulce de leche cheesecake.
The Muddler
For an evening of authentic Pan-Asian food served inside a 1920s-decorated restaurant, book The Muddler. The offer here is two four-piece sushi plates for £15 or three small plates and a side for £25. If you’re ordering the sushi, we recommend the chicken katsu roll and the California crab and avocado roll. If small plates are what you’re in the mood for, the chicken gyozas, Bulgogi pork belly and Takoyaki deep fried octopus would be our choices.
Sachins
Sachins has been serving authentic and traditional Punjabi dishes made with homemade spices and fresh ingredients for more than 40 years. During Restaurant Week, the menu includes an amuse-bouche, choice of starter and a main meal for just £20. We love the sound of the chicken 65 coated in south Indian spices, followed by the Punjabi lamb dakshani curry for main.
St Vincent
Part wine bar, part restaurant, St Vincent is inspired by the neighbourhood bars found in France and Italy. Ideally located on Newcastle Quayside, the menu includes two courses for £20 or three for £25. Start with roasted beets with horseradish crème fraiche, followed by roast fillet of hake with peperonata or grilled chicken thighs with a spicy Calabrian sausage. If you’re ordering three courses, dessert has to be the tiramisu.
Leila Lily’s
Book a table at this award-winning bar and restaurant for a refined dining experience. Dishes here are hand-crafted and served in the beautiful restaurant decorated with floral interiors. Enjoy two courses for £15 or three for £20 during Restaurant Week with choice that include mussels in a white wine, garlic and cream sauce, salmon with tomato sugo and the sticky toffee pudding.
Thali Tray
For an Indian feast like no other, book a table at Thali Tray at Bealim House. The menu offers papadams and dips, choice of a taster, thali tray and treat for just £20. Our favourites include the gobi Manchurian cauliflower and the masala fries for tasters, and don’t miss the pork belly vindaloo and chicken xacuti curries.
Tomahawk Steakhouse
Serving the finest Himalayan salt dry-aged steaks and wagyu, Tomahawk Steakhouse is the place to book this Restaurant Week. The deal is three courses for £20. Choose from parmo croquettaas, bruchetta, prawn cocktail or pork satay for starters, followed by piri piri chicken, a spicy bean burger or rump steak and frites.
Victors
One of Newcastle’s most Instagrammable restaurants is taking part in Restaurant Week once again. Known for its beautiful interiors and delicious food, Victors is offering two courses for £20 or three for £25. Highlights including salt and pepper popcorn chicken, mussels and a hot honey chicken burger.
Hotel Du Vin & Bistro
Inside this magnificent Edwardian building you’ll find a stylish bistro serving classic French cuisine mixed with a British twist. The deal includes two courses for £20 or three for £25 with dishes such as chicken liver parfait, fillet of seabass and classic crème brûlée featured on the menu.
