New multi-spirit Distillery to open in Newcastle
A distillery producing whisky, rum, gin and more will be opening for business at a Newcastle city centre site this Autumn.

A distillery producing whisky, rum, gin and more will be opening for business at a Newcastle city centre site this Autumn.

Moonshiner’s Institute will be a micro-distillery producing a variety of super small batch, artisan spirits.

Their premises will be located on Blandford Street, just off St James’ Boulevard and behind Lane 7.

The startup distillery was created by a husband-and-wife team, Luke Smith and Grace Noon, both of whom have previously worked in the distilling industry. Managing Director & Head Distiller, Luke, previously held the title head distiller of both Poetic License and Mason’s Yorkshire Gin.

“Having my own distillery has long been a dream of mine,” said Luke. “Distilling is not just my profession, it is a true passion and I’m tremendously excited to start sharing some of the spirits we’ve been dreaming up.”

“Moonshiner’s Institute will be bucking tradition and making spirits that currently aren’t being made in the UK and, importantly, we’ll be being completely transparent about how we do it.”

The city centre site will initially house the distillery’s production but will be further refurbished and evolve to offer customer facing make-your-own experiences later in 2024.

Speaking of the experiences, Luke commented, “The spirit industry is very cloak and dagger and, with Moonshiners Institute, we’re hoping to lift that veil for those with an interest. Our academies will give an insight into how whisky, rum and gin are made and give guests the opportunity to make their very own.”

The business is currently pre-selling its spirits and academy places at a discount for early adopters. Somewhat tongue-in-cheek coined the ‘Bootleggers Club’, joining offers bottles of their first batch delivered before anyone else, as well as life-long perks such as invites to exclusive events at the distillery and early access to their latest bottle releases.

“We named it to be in-keeping with Moonshiners but essentially our Bootleggers are our distillery VIPs. We’re totally independent and people getting on board with us early doors, supporting our business to launch and grow, is massive. We reckon they deserve some special treatment,” said Grace.

“We’re expecting our distilling licence any day now and, as soon as we do, we intend to begin producing spirit. For those who like the sound of what we have in store they can secure bottles of the first batch with mates’ rates now.”

There are a limited number of packages available for a limited time. To join the Bootleggers Club just purchase a Bootleggers package at www.moonshiners.co.uk

Prices start from £45.
