North East construction group Applebridge Family has raised more than £2,500 for the Ellen Timney Foundation at its fifth annual charity golf day.
Earlier this year, the Teesside-based contractor announced the Ellen Timney Foundation– a registered charity that was set up to support underprivileged children in the North East – as it’s Charity of the Year, and no fewer than 20 teams made up of clients, suppliers and staff, descended on Wynyard Golf Club, for the charity event.
Although there was a mixture of golfing talent on display, the victors on the day were Team Countryside Properties, who saw off their rivals to take the bragging rights into the clubhouse.
A combination of donations and raffle sales helped raise £2,661 for the Ellen Timney Foundation, which works closely with social workers and professionals.
Jane Morgan, daughter of Ellen Timney, in whose name the Foundation was set up to support, said: “We are delighted, overwhelmed and still in shock! When Applebridge Family contacted us to say our name had been put forward to be their chosen charity of the year, it was amazing, but then to find out they had chosen us! Words can’t express how we felt. The difference their support will make to our small charity is unimaginable. We are truly grateful and thank you just doesn’t seem enough.”
With a variety of fundraising activities planned throughout the year including sports events, staff fundraisers and a charity ball in March, community engagement continues to be of high importance to the Applebridge vision.
Managing Director Chris Brown comments: “Supporting the community has never been more important to the group. At Applebridge we are in a fortunate position, being connected to chief decision makers throughout the construction and business world. We feel it is our social responsibility to use our influence to raise the profiles and support for charities within our communities that struggle to be seen and heard. This has always been one of our chief aims for our ‘Charity of the Year’ initiative.”
