It’s National Wine and Cheese Day (25th July), and although we don’t need an excuse to indulge, we’re using this special day to share our favourite wine bars and cheese spots across the North East and Yorkshire.
Blacks Corner
Selecting and selling farmhouse cheese from across the British Isles and working with 25 cheese makers, this East Boldon hotspot not only has their popular delicatessen, but also their eatery and wine bar where you can sample the produce first hand. The wine list is a highlight here, with hand-selected bottles from specialist artisan and small independent vineyards.

This award-winning independent wine-led restaurant in York is run by sisters who have a passion for pairing food and wine. Whilst sipping on carefully chosen wines, indulge in small plates and sharing boards which feature the finest locally-sourced charcuterie, cheese, fish and desserts – the ultimate cheese board is a must!
Kork
If you’re a fan of natural wines, charcuterie and cheese, Kork in Whitley Bay is where to visit. This local shop and deli serve local deli meats and cheese, as well as host wine tasting events throughout the summer (check their website to buy tickets).
Friends of Ham
These laid-back artisan cheese and charcuterie restaurants have venues in Leeds and Ilkley and serve incredible cheese alongside fabulously paired wine. Build your own board by choosing from a range of charcuterie meats, cheese, crackers and chutney, or order one of the set boards and let the team do the hard work for you.
Kaltur
This popular Spanish wine bar and restaurant has two locations in Newcastle city centre (on High Bridge Street and Dean Street). The deli bar is great to enjoy a selection of homemade breads and olives, alongside a glass of wine or try the deli boards filled with a selection of Spanish ibericos and cheese.
Love Cheese
Visit this hidden speakeasy cheese bar tucked away on York’s Gillygate and discover the finest local cheese and wine. The menus include everything from light bites and classic cheese toasties to afternoon cheese feasts – think afternoon tea but with cheese, meat, olives, cornichons, chutney and local bread.
Fourteen Drops
Sip on a classic glass of wine or discover a new favourite from the range of more than 200 wines at this Yarm wine spot. The dedicated team are on hand to guide you through the range and once you’ve picked your bottle, enjoy it alongside a delicious artisan cheese and charcuterie board.
Farrrands Bar
In the heart of Leeds city centre, this independent bar offers a great selection of fine wine, beer and cocktails, as well as a range of snacks and sharing boards for you to graze over. We recommend the three Yorkshire cheese board, but if you’re after something different, the truffle honey camembert served with sourdough, grapes and chutney is delicious.
French Quarter
Located at the end of Newcastle’s Westgate Road, hidden under the railway arches, you’ll find this fabulous French neighbourhood restaurant and wine bar. The team of experts can help you choose the perfect bottle to accompany your sharing board or try one of the wine flights and sample three different glasses of wine.
Rind
Famous in London and beyond, The Cheese Bar has partnered with The Courtyard Dairy in Settle to open Rind, a dedicated wood-fire pizza, cheeseboard and nature wine bar and restaurant. Cheese options on the menu include pasteurised, unpasteurised, thermised, milk, cow, goat and sheep, plus vegetarian rennet cheeses.
