Mallorca has been in the spotlight recently, with Nicole Kidman posting a series of images on her Instagram, showcasing the island’s beauty. Fellow celebs Michelle Pfeiffer and Reese Witherspoon were quick to comment on how “beautiful” and “amazing” the island looked.

Now, budget travel company Jet2 has opened up Mallorca to those without a Hollywood-sized holiday budget, as part of an extra 11,000 seats to Palma de Mallorca (along with Tenerife) from a range of UK airports.

Additional flights to Mallorca will operate from Birmingham and East Midlands airports in April, and from those two airports plus Glasgow and Leeds Bradford in May. Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy has advised that the increased flights are part of Jet2’s “biggest ever summer programme”. Prices are as low as £91 for a return (Birmingham BHX to Palma PMI, departing 4th May 2023, at the time of writing).

As a family holiday destination, there is certainly much to love about Mallorca. TripAdvisor just ranked the island as the seventh best place for nature on the planet. It was the only location in Europe to make it into the top ten ranking. Stunning beaches are obviously a key part of the attraction, but not the whole story. Mallorca is home to a spectacular mountain range, as well as rolling countryside that delivers greenery and birdsong in abundance.

For families who prefer the bright lights of city life, Palma is a stunning coastal city that combines the best of an urban break with easy access to golden sands and gently lapping waves.

Sports lovers quickly find that Mallorca ticks all the right boxes too. The island provides outstanding terrain for cyclists, a huge range of water-based sports and some superb tennis and golf facilities.

Accommodation-wise, Mallorca is home to a range of hotels, from budget-friendly to ultra-luxurious. Families looking to return regularly also have access to a range of second home options. Prices for homes at Compass, in Cala D’Or on the southeast of the island, start from €313,000 plus VAT for a two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment with terrace and communal pool. Families looking for something more substantial can find two-storey, semi-detached houses with private pools at The Village, in Es Capdella, available from €790,000 plus VAT (both properties available through Taylor Wimpey España).

Mallorca also has a stellar reputation amongst foodies, thanks to its wealth of local flavours, seasonal produce and fresh seafood. Eateries range from upscale beach clubs and Michelin star restaurants to cosy cafés and humble bistros serving delicious dishes that the locals have dined on for generations.

The vast range of amenities to be found across Mallorca means that families can visit the island with anything from a modest budget to one that allows them to seriously splash out.

Either way, Mallorca’s beautiful beaches, stunning scenery and fabulous local cuisine can contribute to a relaxing break. One that even more families can enjoy thanks to the additional seats from Jet2 over the coming months.
