Building Design Northern Ltd (BDN), which has offices in the North East and the Lake District, joins a stellar line-up of organisations already supporting the magazine, including Sunderland City Council, The Inn Collection Group and The Social Co.
Founded in 1983, the award-winning practice is today headed up by managing director, Richard Marsden and recently made headlines when it was appointed as the lead architect for British Steel’s planned £26 million processing facility at Skinningrove, in east Cleveland.
BDN provided an initial architectural and engineering feasibility study of the site prior to the work going to tender, with the firm having been appointed across multiple disciplines to carry out all of the design work on the landmark development.
The company is also the driving force behind the ambitious Sheepfolds development, a £2million project which will see a former railway stables in the shadow of Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light converted into a mixed-use leisure venue comprising retail, food & drink and entertainment space.
Speaking about the partnership, Richard said: “As a proud North East business, we take every opportunity we can to champion the region, so we’re naturally delighted to be partnering with the team at Portfolio North, who really share our love and passion for the area.
“Since the magazine launched in 2017, it has really helped fill a gap in the market for in-depth news, analysis and thought leadership content profiling the North East property market and the rapid rate at which the publication has grown underpins just how much of a success it has been.”
BDN Ltd has also continued to invest in its own North East presence over recent years, most notably through its relocation to a new head office at the Grade II-listed former Simpson Street School on the outskirts of Sunderland city centre last year.
As well as providing a base for BDN’s 24-strong core team, it also saw the company bring to market eight luxury loft-style apartments standing on the edge of Riverside Sunderland which are now available for short-term stays.
Cassie Moyse, director at Portfolio North, added: “Portfolio North was set up to act as a flag bearer for the North East, so we’re thrilled to have BDN come on board as our latest partner.
“From British Steel’s £26m Special Profiles Development to the Sheepfolds at Riverside Sunderland, the firm is playing a key role in positioning the North East as a desirable place to live, work and play, which is everything that embodies Portfolio North.
“I think I speak for everyone at Portfolio when I say we’re looking forward to be working with the team and look forward to building on our relationship as we continue to champion everything that is great about our fantastic region.”
Portfolio North launched as a standalone, bi-monthly publication this year and today the business, lifestyle and property magazine boasts a readership of over 35,000 across the North East of England, as well as a digital news platform attracting thousands of visitors each and every month.
